Callisto

Cantare is a unique and 'different' piece of gear, and came about from many requests from our clients who want some kind of tone control unit to allow them to make tonal adjustments, since the gear they have do not provide any tone control/EQ ability.

In order to keep Cantare relatively small, we decided to stick with three tone controls, Treble, Mid and Bass. These controls being mostly what home stereo setups use or need.

Cantare uses a hybrid circuit, the tone controls use the OPA2134 ultra low noise Op-Amp. The bass and mid tone controls are a gyrator circuit to simulate an inductor, treble uses a capacitor and resistor for frequency shaping, followed by 6922/E88CC Aikido cathode follower output buffers.

The circuit is unity gain and non inverting.

We decided on using Op-Amps to, again, keep the size and complexity in check and to not end up with a physically large piece of gear using many tubes. Doing this might be fine for a studio/pro setup, but not really for a home stereo setup.

Cantare does its job excellently and is super quiet to boot!

All three tone controls do their job extremely well, one set for the right and one set for the left channel, with a tone defeat switch to be able to completely bypass the tone controls.

Note that Cantare is not a stand alone preamp, as it has no gain.

It is designed to be placed between a music source, for example a preamp with no tone controls and an amplifier.

As with all our gear, only high quality name brand parts are used, as well as the LL3737 Lundahl power transformer, which is custom made for us by Lundahl. This same power transformer is also used in our very popular models Aretha LT, Statera and Callisto.

You do get a choice of wood type for the chassis as well as a choice of plate colors, please inquire regarding the type of wood and plate colors that are available.

Cantare is made to order and will take around 6 weeks or so to build.
