Brand new from scratch PAS build

Post by jwb474 »

Hello everyone who reads this post. I an finally starting my 1st PAS scratch build. Finally got most the parts together from Dynakits, Tube Depot and of course Erhard. The only piece not obtained is the front panel which will be custom. (Intend to start a discussion on front panels and a rant).

Attached are drawings of the top level block diagram. I would be great if you see any any mistakes got made or if there is a better way of doing the hookup. Looking forward to any comments.

at first glance it looks to be OK, mind you, I did not 'trace' all the connections.
Question re the loudness. How are you implementing the loudness, do you have a diagram of the actual loudness control?

Along with the loudness circuit I wanted to implement the Hi Filter but could not figure out how to implement it in the TCLA assembly.

for our Z series preamps, such as the TCLA tone control preamp and Aikido line preamp (no tone controls), these have been designed to be used with 100K volume controls and 250K balance controls.
I see that you are using a 250K volume control. This will work, but is not ideal. If possible, try and use the above mentioned potentiometer values.
If using those values, the loudness circuit component values are as follows.

Great, thanks for the input. I am sure I have in stock all the new values of parts suggested.

Here's an update to this project. Attached is the REV A diagram and a Change Log of the changes detailing what was changed and the reasons. Also in the change log is To Do and Rev B possible changes. Any comments are welcome.

as before, a quick glance, it all looks to be OK, but I guess you'll find out for sure once it is all wired up ;)
As long as the power supply wiring is all good, faults with signal wiring is not going to do any damage, it will either work or not...simple really :D

Well this is the kit for what I hope is the final version of my build. Everything is listed except the Front Panel and Back Label (Which is going to be another discussion when the time comes). When the Re B diagram is ready I will post it.

For me a lot of the fun in doing a project is to identify what I want to do, develop a diagram, obtain all all the parts and assemble a kit.
