Kit #6: Z-PSU power supply

This power supply is designed to replace the original Dynaco metal can multi capacitor, the selenium rectifier and its capacitors. It will retain the use of the PA211 power transformer as well as the 12X4 tube rectifier. We have also added a fuse for the 120V line, which was never present with the original Dynaco design. Quality film and electrolytic capacitors as well as carbon film resistors are used. The PCB is manufactured to FR4-TG standards with ground planes on both sides to improve screening as well as component screen printing to make assembly easier. A set of assembly instructions is also included.

An important note about using this power supply: because it still uses the PA211 power transformer, it will only be able to handle the current requirement for five tubes in total. That is two tubes each in the phono and line preamps as well as the 12X4 rectifier tube. If you are considering upgrading to our TCLA tone control preamp or to our AIKIDO classic line preamp, each of which uses 4 tubes PLUS the two tubes for the phono preamp and possibly the 12X4 tube rectifier, this power supply and PA211 combination will not be enough to provide the filament current for all those tubes. You will need to use one of our regulated power supplies, kit#7 or kit#8, as shown below.

Kit #7: Regulated Power Supply, ANALOG (retains the use of the 12X4 rectifier tube)

We developed this power supply for our TCLA and AIKIDO preamps as each of these use four tubes, and as a result a power supply with higher current ability is required. This power supply replaces the original PA211 power transformer as well as ALL associated power supply components, except for the 12X4 tube rectifier. Even though 95% of this power supply is solid state, we call it the analog version as it retains the 12X4 tube rectifier. For our 100% solid state regulated power supply that also does away with the 12X4 rectifier tube, please see below, kit#8.

High voltage B+ for the preamps as well as DC filament for the tubes are both regulated using solid state voltage regulators giving 100% stability and super low noise performance. It comes complete with its own two power transformers, both of which fit on the PCB. Quality metal film resistors, film and electrolytic capacitors are standard with this kit. The PCB is manufactured to FR4-TG standards with ground planes on both sides to improve screening as well as component screen printing to make assembly easier. A set of assembly instructions is also included. However the tube is not included. Please note that the photos are a general indication, and component colors and style can and will vary.

An important note about using this regulated power supply: it will NOT work with our clone PC5 & PC6 upgrade kit,

or original Dynaco circuits, due to a quirky way that Dynaco tied one end of the phono preamp tube filaments to main power ground, which does not agree with the way the DC filament regulator operates.

Kit #8: Regulated Power Supply, ALL SOLID STATE(does NOT use the 12X4 rectifier tube)

This regulated power supply is identical to Kit#7 above except that rather than using the 12X4 rectifier tube to give us raw high voltage B+, it has been replaced by a diode bridge. High voltage B+ for the preamps as well as DC filament for the tubes are both regulated using solid state voltage regulators giving 100% stability and super low noise performance. It comes complete with its own two power transformers, both of which fit on the PCB. Quality metal film resistors, film and electrolytic capacitors are standard with this kit. The PCB is manufactured to FR4-TG standards with ground planes on both sides to improve screening as well as component screen printing to make assembly easier. A set of assembly instructions is also include.
